Pic unrelated to content.
Recently there has been a huge hoohaa about the fact that certain countries are actively prosecuting and/or passing bills that are criminalizing 2D lolicon pornography materials (”materials” because it covers a wide range of media). I don’t think I need quote examples here, since anyone who is reading this is probably of [...]

K-ON!
(This image has nothing to do with the main topic of this entry but I want to include a picture for this post however I can't think of a more appropriate one so I'll just share the artwork I've been staring at recently. It's by Rino Miki and honestly, the character in the image isn't that appealing.... but the background is so beautiful *_* Man, I wanna make it my wallpaper... but I don't want to replace my Vertigo Comics wallpaper yet. xD)I've just heard about it last night and I believe many others in the blogosphere are familiar with it already. But for those who don't know about it yet, there's currently a tournament between anime blogs in the internet called Aniblog Tourney. It's basically like a contest between anime blogs of veterans and newbies. The winner is based on the number of votes. If you want to know more about it, here are some useful links for you to check out (because I'm lazy to explain further when someone else had already done a much better explanation anywayz):- About Aniblog Tourney- How to Vote- The Chart in image file- The Chart in HTMLI consider it an honour for Hyper Parfait to be included in the list O_O Even ranked 72 out of 96?! SERIOUSLY? At first I thought I was hallucinating... but well, xtine06 saw it too so it can't be that the two of us had the same delusions. Haha!To be honest, I'm not that... comfortable when it comes to participating in competitions/contests. "Good luck" is seldom on my side.... yeah, I admit I get pretty pessimistic and paranoid when it comes to this kind of stuff ;_; Advanced apology, xtine06, because I'm so rich in bad luck =_= Especially recently... but don't wanna think of RL right now...Ah well, ignoring the contest part, this Aniblog Tourney is a wonderful opportunity to discover more interesting blogs out there. I'm so checking out the blogs I'm not familiar with in the list... when I find the time. I'm kinda busy with the preparations for the blog's anniv- Ack! I spoiled the surprise xDThe blog is not yet even a year old... it still needs a lot of work. So far we just post what we feel like posting and each of us has our own style (I even have a different writing style on each series I cover at times, haha!). xtine06 and I are the main writers of this blog, and there are times our opinions are so different, making this blog pretty... contradicting. Haha! I'm not sure if xtine06 is also like this but I'm really really lazy to proofread myself... most of the time. My grammar and spelling isn't really horrible, but I don't give a damn about grammatical errors or typos if what I'm writing is just for fun. Hehe.Anywayz, it was really a miracle for H*P to be in that list, but I doubt another one would happen... ^^; Besides, Open Your Mind is awesome~Vote for the blog that you enjoy reading! We'll still love you whether you vote for us or not xD

Yesterday when I learned that Dark Horse had put the CLAMP Mangettes on hold (and Del Rey's CLAMP in Wonderland has been pushed back as well, by the way), I also learned that they were going to restore their Dark Horse Presents anthology series to print. Dark Horse Presents launched in print in 1986 but has been on MySpace rather than in print for a while now (although the online version will be moved off of MySpace and onto Dark Horse's website). The overall gist of the publication is original short stories and previews for Dark Horse titles. Why does this matter to you? I got in touch with Jim Gibbons at Dark Horse, who checked in with DH pres Mike Richardson-- they ARE planning to include some manga in DHP, although which titles and what kind of content haven't been finalized as yet. DHP has offered up manga before-- I can't tell you exactly how much or how often, but I found at least one issue featuring a Dirty Pair preview --so I'm glad to see they'll carry on the tradition; hopefully it'll continue to introduce comics readers to manga (and perhaps vice-versa). If you want a couple of slightly educated guesses on what manga might appear in DHP-- Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service, which Dark Horse Entertainment managed to get a movie deal on, seems like a likely bet. CLAMP's works are always a possibility, and Dark Horse has been releasing omnibus editions of their titles. And I'd hope to see the Yoshitaka Amano-illustrated project Shinjuku previewed there as well. But that's all speculation and wishing, of course! Do any of you guys remember picking up physical copies of Dark Horse Presents? I'm looking forward to 'em myself!

Do you remember the Lucky Star mikoshi, or portable shrine, that appeared in a festival in Washimiya-- home of the shrine that inspired the appearance of the one in Lucky Star --last year. Word is that the shrine is now going to be shipped to Shanghai for the Shanghai International Expo on May 1st. Japan Probe also reports that this same expo has asked permission (or perhaps more accurately, forgiveness) to use a song by Japanese singer Mayo Okamoto-- which they had already given Chinese lyrics and had sung by Jackie Chan and other Chinese celebrities. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/RaZWcg3YwBY&rel=0&badVar=0xb1b1b1&badVar=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RaZWcg3YwBY&rel=0&badVar=0xb1b1b1&badVar=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="640" height="385" wmode="transparent"></embed></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param></object> Can we just turn the Shanghai event into an anime convention and call it good?

Arakawa Under the Bridge
It must be figure day because I saw an awful lot of spiffy figures stuff going down on my RSS feed-- but there were two (or, technically, five) that I wanted to share with you. The first four are the new set of Lucky Star figures-- and man, I wonder how long before they'll need some kind of second anime to promote their stuff, because they potentially have an infinite number of Lucky Star crossover figure sets they could do. This one is Lucky Star x Street Fighter, featuring (left to right) Tsukasa as Ken, Kagami as Ryu, Konata as Guile, and Miyuki as C. Viper. I'm a little disappointed that they didn't give Miyuki the pompadour, and that outfit looks awfully revealing for her character to not be all blushy, but damn if they aren't cute. And then there was this figure-- you may recognize her, because she's a re-release, but I will use any excuse possible to post this figure of Odin Sphere's Velvet, because it is some kinda gorgeous (even if I think her stomach is a little more sucked in than strictly necessary). At an SRP of ¥9800 (about $105 USD), I don't expect many of us to buy her, but man...I wish I could. Yum.

I was watching the documentary Helvetica – the movie about a typeface. Sounds riveting (sarcasm) but actually I can say that without sarcasm – this was one of the most artistic films I had seen in my entire life because it deconstructs the role typography has in our culture – and how it influences us.
But [...]
