Wondering who Professor Hershel Layton from the DS series of puzzle/mystery games ultimately ends up with (relationship-wise)? Well, first let’s put the shota/yaoi fans down gently by saying it’s not Luke Triton (LOL, I promised myself not to use this ever in my writing… but I’ll make an exception here). This new title from Level-5 unfortunately doesn’t address that issue, however it does introduce us to his son: Alfendi Layton! And I must say, that is an awesome name! Layton Brothers: Mystery Room Developed by Matrix Software, Published by Level-5 Price: Free for Cases 0-2, $2.99 for Cases 3-6 and $1.99 for Cases 7-9 available as IAP (In-App-Purchase) From the iconic Layton hat symbol on the title screen, to the colourful and lively characters, the game great hommage to it’s heritage. However in terms of gameplay, it is more closely related to the Ace Attorney series compared to the Professor Layton series… not that it’s a bad thing mind you. Originally meant as a release for the DS back in 2009, Mystery Room was retracted and reengineered for the iOS replacing its previous protagonists with the current ones you see and linking its universe with that of the Professor Layton series. One might see this as a move to attract Layton fans (blast you Level-5, it worked) to the game, but by itself the game is a solid contender, even if it is a little short on content… Story One word, charming.
