I haven't generally kept up the Listurday feature, but let's go back and check in on this weekend's movies in Japan, shall we? I admit, my excitement for this week's rankings have a little bit to do with my bias for Yatterman, a film I really enjoyed when I watched it at New York Comic Con (even if I'm skeptical on its ability to make it in the mainstream US...if it even gets a wide release). Yatterman opened at the number one spot this weekend, followed by with another new anime-related flick: Doraemon's latest. This drops Okuribito (Departures), which had jumped up on the list thanks to its post-Oscar-win re-release, down to #3. The new Keroro film also debuted at #5, and the 20 Century Boys second film drops from #3 to #9. Oof! If you're interested in what American films Japan is watching: Changeling is at #6, Benjamin Button at #7, Australia at 8, and Mamma Mia! At 10.
