There's been some discussion about anime blogging and communities and whatnot, and though I've been fairly absent from blogging myself, I thought I'd post a topic up here since I run Anime Nano and all, and I guess(?) that Anime Nano is sort of an anime community site.

So um, what do you think can be done to foster community? I've thought about this myself, and I'm really not sure what would work. I guess a lot of people use IRC, but I've been reluctant to go there since it's so time-consuming. I've also thought about adding more profile-ish stuff to Anime Nano, but maybe that'd just make it seem like we're trying too hard. I was thinking of somehow connecting with Facebook too, since I've been doing some Facebook apps here and there.

Are strategically synchronized blog posts the end all and be all to community building? I think they seem kind of scary, myself. Sort of like a flash mob, but in blogs!

Incidentally, I'm taking an eCommunities course next semester, so maybe that'll give me some ideas on making Anime Nano a cooler place to hang out, if that's even what people want to do.

Discuss!

I like your flash mob analogy. IRC isn't time-consuming as much as it is a timesink, but it could be called time-consuming if that's what you mean.

Also, Anime Nano needs some incentive for us to actually be involved more here, and right now I don't see any past the self-serving interest factor. If you fix that you've got the answer, but what it is I'm not sure.

Hmm, yep, that's what I'm tryin' to figure out. What do you think about those "Anime I've Seen" type of deals that everyone keeps writing about? Though now I guess it'd be too late since no one wants to reinsert all of the anime they've seen yet again into Anime Nano.
