We should have one.

We should. I think that'd be awesome!

That can be easily arranged. :)

Internet Relay Chat? Seems kinda old fashioned to me. What do they use it for these days anyway? Just chatting? 'Cause it seems like we're doing fine with the forums.

Honestly, I have no idea about IRC. How does one get a channel?

Most people I know use irc to download manga and/or anime, but I'm sure some people logon just to chat.  To join/create a channel, you simply login to mIRC or whatever irc program you'd like to use and type /join #channelname.  I don't know anything about setting ops, etc., though.  I just know the very basics.

It's very simple. Just login to an Irc-network, and register the channel with the help of chanserv. If you need any help, just let me know. :)

There's plenty of documentation on this all over the web. Knowledge of IRC commands shouldn't be a problem. The questions is if Hung wants to have one.

I for one wouldd use it just to chat. I think that IRC does wonders for communitiy-building ;)

Me, personally I have never really liked IRC or any IM services. I actually prefer to use messageboards.

I'm with Hung on this one. We are doing just fine in the forums.

I don't see the problem with having both, since they hardly overlap anyway. The kind of talk you have on IRC is different, and as lolikitsune said, more effective when it comes to building a community.

I'd like to try it out. That way, people will naturaly use what they like the most, and we'll eventualy figure out if it's worth keeping or not.

IRC and forums go hand in hand. IRC doesn't really take away any potential threads from a forum, and the kind of conversation that goes on the majority of the time in IRC is considered spam or useless on most forums.

That said, if I create a channel for us, would anyone join it? Or would y'all prefer if Hung runs the IRC channel?

Edit: there is a channel for us. If Hung wants OP I can look into giving it to him.

/server irc.rizon.net

/join #animenano

Whoever wants to can be in charge of that. I don't know the first thing about doing IRC anyway...

Ok then, if any one wants to take it over from me I'll hand it over. Until then, I'll be in charge I guess.

I'm trying out IRC now and we really need a few more people to join. There are only 3 users so far. So please join if you got nothing else to do.

I'll try to pass by. But don't forget time zones are involved.

This sounds like a great idea; and rizon's the best place to do it, since most of the fansubbers and distro groups reside on rizon too.

I'm usually on Rizon anyway, so I'll definitely stop by.
