Hey dudes, I thought I'd kick off some discussion in the figures section, since there's not a whole lot going on here.

So I'm not really a figure maniac or anything, mostly because I think they usually cost too much and aren't really worth the money.

I did end up buying a set of disgaea figures, though.

My question: How much is too much? Seriously, I see people's pictures of tabletops full of figures, and they're always talking about buying more!

Where do you put these things anyway? Once they've overrun your room, that is.

Just curious.

I have a shelf, whichis about to be a series of shelves, but I like the shelf thing. I mean, i have other hobbies, so overrunning my room would sort of become and issue for the other things I like.

But then, I think that idea is based on the individual. I see a room full of figures as wasteful. I mean, you don't stop to take a look at any of them on lower shelves or in the backs of shelves, so that stop being part of the hobby and more part of some mental switch that needs to be flicked by buying more figures. You sort of need to stop and maybe not buy every attractive figure out there.

Personally, I try to keep it to one a month, for financial and space takey uppey reasons. I know other people who just go buy a shitton all at once, and that seems like fun, but then you just end up stacking up figures in shelves and they will start to lose their meaning.

Plus, you cant look up the skirt of a figure two rows back. That is shameful as a fan.

Ooo, figures. I got one the other day at Fanime in a grab bag. Some Inuyasha character. I think her name's Kikyo? I don't know very well because I am unfamiliar with the show in general. I don't really know what to do with her. I don't have a place for her and I don't plan on buying more. So I guess the limit for me is whatever I inadvertently pick up?

I like to think I show a little restraint, at least compared to some people. I won't generally buy anything costing more than are 8000y (I might but that a little for a decent 1/6, but very rarely).

I do have a habit of buying pretty much everything I want, though I'm cutting down heavily on the smaller figures (gasha and TFs) - as you may guess, room IS a huge problem, and I've got things on pretty much every flat surface I have - a couple of bookcases (my figures lined in front of my DVDs), ontop of my TV, on top of my stereo, etc, etc. I've actually got most of my TFs and gasha packed away in boxes now to make room for larger figures. Once I'm full up larger figures I'll probably quit buying for a while ^^; I've still got room for expansion for the rest of the year, hopefully...

I do love my figures, though. It probably helps that I'm more one for clutter than cleanliness - I like my living space to feel lived in - and I like the eye candy I get looking around me, and every time I do it reminds me of all my favoritest shows.

Don't have a lot, so I can't say anything.

Then again, it's up to the individual. If they have the cash, by all means.

Just got into the figure foray. :) I try to stick with 1/8s which is about 4500 yen per pc. With my current take up of 1 fig/month, I'm not worried about running out of space anytime soon. :)

The figures (a grand collection of 2 figures so far LOL!) are placed in a cool glass cabinet to keep out dust and sunlight which could potentially warp the figures.

Very true. Your enjoyment of each new figurine diminishes as space runs out. Just think of it as a toy I suppose. You'll get bored of it. Just like how you buy a DVD, you don't rewatch it all the time.

Leaving figurines out of the box also gets them dusty.

I leave all my figures out. I keep them away from harsh lighting, but I figure that buying them to keep them in boxes means I didn't really want it in the first place. I mean, I used to collect some things in that manner, a few American models and stuff, like a Wolverine Origin figure I had which stayed boxed for three years. It's just not worth it. They need to breath and feel loved.

I have 2 display cabinets of figurines atm, and I'm quickly running out of space. No idea when I'm going to stop because figure collect is just so damn addictive. I think it's going to be a matter of time before I have to get my 3rd cabinet.

I don't like the idea of leaving my figurines outside, but cabinet's not cheap either ~.~

so far I have one cabinet of figures, though its not full just yet. its an enjoyable hobby though I get the feeling that I will have to buy a 2nd cabinet one day, which I have no room for, lol.

Well like I say to many others when it comes to merchandise buying. "Money is not an issue when you have BURNING PASSION!"

I think it's definitely up to the individual. I don't really have a cabinet full of them. I do have a nice 4 tier display case though. With some bright lighting inside it to display the figures I consider the nicest or the most precious. The rest are in their boxes inside my wardrobe. Err, yeah, it's quite big, that wardrobe, lol.

It eats money, which I don't have in abundance. I generally try to buy the figures I like, but won't spend more than I can afford. Which causes me great grief sometimes, haha.

For now I buy them, but I dun open them up till i found a place to put them since my room, although is huge, but currently has no more space. Perhaps i need a renovation.

I usually buy a bunch at a time. Not by choice though, just because its easier for me and i dont have all that much money to be spending per-month without saving up enough to afford any. I dont have horribly large amounts though so none of them are 'in the back shelf' where i cant see them. They are all on my big computer desk (on the upper shelves above the monitor and to the sides of it) and all pretty much in the very front. I have a few of the 1/6's and other big ones behind some of the really tiny ones, but thats about it. Other then that this desk is big enough, so i have lots of space for now. After that, i have two shelves emptied up already.

Besides, im moving to a dorm in about 2 weeks, and i have a good sized desk there as well, and im not taking much from home, so ill have plenty of space there as well.

Price wise, ive only gotten myself to spend $80 as the most expensive on a single one.

Im no pro-collector guy though, i wont be buying any big glass nice case for them, or even protecting them from bad effects natural or otherwise. If they get dusty, i wipe them off, its that simple. But thats just cuz i never understood the whole idea of collecting i guess. To me, if i buy something, its getting opened, and probably within 30 minutes of purchasing, and ill take care of them, but wont go out of my way to buy a more expensive case rather then just getting a book-case or something.

Oh and hi, this is my first post O:
