I use them either as a test to see whether a series is worth getting, or to keep up to date with the newest chapters (for Naruto, Bleach, One Piece and Full Metal Alchemist).

Since I'm lacking any financial backing, and prefer spending my money on meaningful expenses, at the same time keeping up with my alternative hobby (aside from anime, of course), I prefer scanlations, as some of the peeps here have mentioned.

That is, until I have a decent job with decent pay, as well as a mode of transport I can call my own.

I would prefer to get my hands on the official translations, but it is impossible to get Licensed Korean translations here in USA, so I have to manage with scanlations.

Wow, this must be the first time I read this thread. I'm glad I'm not the only one who prefers to read books than digital copies. Staring too long at the computer screen isn't enjoyable at all for me. Perhaps when a very good portable reader comes out in the future I might give scanlations a try.

I actually like the computer screen better because it takes less energy to scroll then to flip a page. Wow, now I sound like a lazy bum. But it's probably because I'm now used to seeing things on a screen though it's not that big of a difference to me. I'm in front of the computer a lot anyway so my eyes aren't getting anymore abused if I was watching anime on the computer.

I'd not tried scanlations till a few weeks ago, and found scrolling down the page at first annoying, then fun, because I couldn't see what was going to happen, and I can always resize things in infran view if they are huge. I do delete things once I've read them, and just keep my favourite pictures, and I do plan on buying all the manga i enjoy, when I've graduated and got a job.

Kotonoha has some fantastic stuff on there. Thanks for the recommendation. Some of the stuff on Omanga is pretty cool too.

However, I've found loads of sites for yaoi scanlation, and no sites for yuri scanlation as of yet *cries*. I'm obviously looking in the wrong places!

I'm a little weird about reading manga. I actually like reading the scans even if I have the hard copies. It's not because of quality or whatever; it's simply much more convenient. Heck, I haven't even touched my OP volumes, ever. Whenever I have the urging to reread the series, I just sit on front of my monitor. ^^;

I'm currently using CDisplay for the scans, btw.

I'm the same in preferring hardcopy versions of manga, but scanslations are pretty much my bread and butter. Probably moreso than avis. Kotonoha put out some truly wonderful and strange stuff if anyone wants a new source.

But aye, the art is reproduced more accurately when on paper. A lot of the line subtly is lost when scanslators clean their raws. Reading it on the computer gets easier with time, though. A good reader prog helps no end, too. I use ffview for the mac, but there's definitely good good Window-based ones out there.

I really prefer to read in book form too. But sadly, i can't really afford them. So mostly, I do my reading with the PC.

Software is very important when it comes to reading scanlations. I highly recommend Irfanview. It's small, fast and very efficient when it comes to reading scanlations.

I sometimes readthem, but I definately prefer grabbing the real book. I like having it in hand. In fact, I prefer the volumes to, say, magazines which stack up pretty fast too.

YAY VOLUMES!
