Last summer, I could find only 30 shows to preview. This summer, there are 36, without even counting movies.And that doesn't include strong continuing shows, such as Requiem for the Phantom, Pandora Hearts, Cross Game, Before Green Gables, Mazinger Z, Guin Saga, Hanasakeru Shounen, Saki -- and new episodes of Suzumiya Haruhi.The new season starts on Wednesday and Thursday of next week, with mermaid fantasy Umi Monogatari and ecchi comedy Fight! Ippatsu Juuden-chan, and then gets going in earnest on the following Wednesday with the gentle yuri drama Aoi Hana and a new mystery from the makers of Higurashi, Umineko no Naku Koro ni -- and more new shows on succeeding days.I'll preview all of the new shows in detail, but first here is a brief list of some that catch my eye:Aoi Hana: Shoujo-ai slice-of-life from an excellent manga, adapted by the writer of Rescue Wings and directed by the director of Honey & Clover.Bakemonogatari: Shinbou plus plot. Written by the writer of true tears, working from a Wii visual novel.Sora no Manima ni: The director of Gintama and School Rumble animates an entertaining manga about an irrepressible childhood friend. Stars a bevy of outstanding young seiyuus: Koshimizu Ami, Hayami Saori, Tomatsu Haruka, Itou Kanae, Maeno Tomoaki.Spice and Wolf 2: A new series of the supernatural medieval finance romance starring Koshimizu Ami as Horo the wolf goddess and Fukuyama Jun as a wandering trader.Taishou Yakyuu Musume: The director of Genshiken and Potemayo gives us an anime based on a series of comic novels about girls playing baseball in 1925.Tokyo Magnitude 8.0: Bones contributes the story of a girl living through the aftermath of a giant earthquake in Tokyo.Umi Monogatari - Anata ga Itekureta Koto: A fantasy adventure involving a lost ring and the mermaids who find it in the sea and come onto land to return it. A little awkwardness will suit Fumi's voice. Add Sakamoto Maaya as the other star, and I see a lot of possibilties for strong acting by highly professional voices. Oh, and also Tanaka Rie. Oh, yes, plus Tomatsu Haruka. Mamiko Noto as an afterthought. And I forgot Minagawa Junko, who is doing such a great job as Oz in Pandora Hearts. And did I mention the old master, Ohkawa Tohru? They even have one of the top sound directors, Aketagawa Jin.Writer Okada Mari did true tears (for the same studio, PA Works), Red Garden, Vampire Knight, and many episodes of Simoun. The story is based on a side-story written by the co-founders of Type-Moon for the Wii visual novel called 428.The director is the only question mark. It's his first TV series. In 2007, he directed a movie called Sword of the Stranger. Before that, he directed episodes of FMA and RahXephon, among others, after emerging from the ranks of key animators.But this remains one of the summer shows that most interest me, mainly because of the writer and the cast. Recently, I finished watching Neo Angelique Abyss. Produced by KOEI, I directly assumed it was based on game and this suspicion was confirmed correct through Wikipedia. Having 26 episodes, the second half was called Neo Angelique Abyss: Second Age.Before you go too far, I remind you that this review reveals many plots. Stop here if you aren't willing to know.The story was about a girl named Angelique, living in a world named Arcadia. One day her school was attacked by Thanatos - a kind of monsters (monsters design reminded me to Eureka 7), and from this moment, her life had changed. The meeting with Nyx and Rayne, the Purifiers of Thanatos dragged her into a truth that she was also a purifier but more than that, she was also claimed as "Queen's Egg"; who will save Arcadia through her prayer. Later, she would be accompanied by J.D and Hyuuga.I won't say that this series was a brilliant work. However, I saw some interesting points. Let's start with the negative first before we wrapped it with the good things.NegativeThe fight scenes seemed less interesting. It was too easy to guess how it worked. Mostly only repetitive ways of fight. I guess it tried to totally followed the game version. So maybe, it would be better for you to try the game.Wikipedia stated it similarity to La Corda D'Oro because the girl was surrounded by bishounen. Now that made me think so, too. But La Corda D'Oro had its own plus points. First, La Corda D'Oro was made as manga first. Second, La Corda D'Oro had more girls to come up in scenes who had role to stir the story. Neo Angelique Abbys was pretty limited with Angelique. The story of her friendship with her school's girls could be count for 2-4 episodes only.Angelique was too pure (which probably a qualification of being a Queen. It made me think about prophets) and too soft-heart. I won't mind to see a child between age 3-12 had their pure heart. But for a 16 years old of girl, well, that was too exaggerate.I expect more characters to die. Instead, only one. The worst was... no protagonist die. This was quite annoying to me. I felt like the writer(s) was trying to save as much as possible of character to make them live. There were plot holes, too. For example, when Jet (antagonist who turned protagonist) carried the bomb away from the ship should be died when the bomb exploded, but he saved. I mean, with a big explosion like that, no artifact (the way they called 'machine') could survive. Was this the way the production team to satisfy women audience by decreasing death of bishounen? If this was a part of selling, I would said it was half failed.The ending didn't has its 'bang'. As a story that 'destined' to be end as the 'destine' for Angelique was 'written', it didn't give me a hook.PositiveCharacters were crafted well. This was the good point of the anime. You can differ Hyuuga (warrior type) to Nyx (woman's best friend type) or make a clear opposition between Rayne and J.D. But what I really liked from the list of character was Jet. Jet was an artifact (the way they called 'machine'), a second generation of J.D.J.D. had known as a failure project because he gained his consciousness, Jet was kind of machine who always obeyed his master's order. His repeated speeches of his beliefs as machine had a strong influence to drive the overall story. I think without Jet, the story less interesting.Bishounen for all characters. Good guys or bad guys -- all of them are bishounen. I have nothing else to say :DThe important of friendship was the main message of the story. It was repeated again and again through many protagonist characters. Though the message was quite common (most anime carried friendship, the need to protect something, and love as the main theme), since it was boldly said in several different situation, I respected it. The second message was "noble's oblige" which can freely translated as 'it's a sin if you don't do what you can do'. This statement came from Nyx at the pilot episode and recalled nearly end episodes. I think, as a human with all the limitation that we have - physically or mentally - we can do something to the world even it is only a small thing.No antagonist couldn't turn into protagonist, vice-versa. In many mainstream anime, most of antagonist ended because of defeated and died. This was a conventional way of story telling which of course still suited our nowdays world. However, if you can limit the death, then why not? I know this is contradictive to the negative points I wrote earlier but I stated there I expected good people to die. The good thing is, no antagonist turned into good person in instant. All of them had a painful process to become that one. Again with Jet, he questioned his 'humanity' as memories kept forcely popped-up while in that time he didn't realize that he was in state of gathering consciousness. Rather than except humanity easily, he battled it and stayed with his belief as machine. He didn't want to except freedom because he was a proud artifact. Even J.D. couldn't persuade him.Mathias was also a very interesting character. He was the only one who could really turned up side down the story. He was a good nature person, a spiritual leader who was actually a temporary replacement before René - a true one was found. I understood his feeling so I didn't blame him to turn himself into a jealousy and antagonist. From all characters in Neo Angelique Abyss, he was the only believable character because his characterization was closed to our daily life.Several scenes really had driven my heart. Well, I am not a typical person who can easily to cry even when I watched a movie/read a book alone, but there were scenes in this anime that touched my heart. So I believe it can give you impact, too.Beautiful ending songs that worth to enjoy. I didn't see any relation of the ending song with the story. For the worst case, it gave me false expectation. The soundtrack was also good to hear.With love song as the closing theme, I did hope there were a slight love story involved. The truth is nul. No love story. At least, no love story that really was developed. But I find this as a good point. One, I kept wondering who became Angelique's boyfriend. Second, it would be too mainstream if love stories involved. At least, it lessen itself from similarity to La Corda D'Oro.ConclusionSo yes, you can see there are more positive points than the negative one. There are too many good new shows this season. Heading the list for me are Eden of the East, Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom, and Ristorante Paradiso.K-On, Guin Saga, Hanasakeru Shounen and Pandora Hearts aren't too far behind. Here are brief reviews of most of the new shows, from my own fairly idiosyncratic point of view. (mouseover images for captions, click to enlarge; titles link to more info in English or Japanese)Eden of the East (Higashi no Eden) (jp: 東のエデン) The best new show of the season. Craziness, mystery, romance, real English from American voice-actors, accurate views of Washington DC…. All that and top-notch Production IG animation and strong voice-acting from Hayami Saori and Kimura Ryouhei, who give us wonderful chemistry as the leads.Despite being shown in the Noitamina time-slot, which is aimed largely at a female audience, this show is designed to appeal to a wide range of anime fans, and seems to be succeeding. First-rate OP and ED, from Oasis (!) and School Food Punishment, respectively. The ED has especially interesting animation, although I myself prefer the OP.Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom (jp: Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom) The dark and deadly tale of two assassins. People who know say they can see that the original has been "Bee-Trained" by director Mashimo Kouichi. Whatever the case, this is a slick, well-paced, and emotionally moving show.Takagaki Ayahi is one of the young seiyuus I think of as a future voice goddess. She confirms my opinion in this role as a hardened young assassin. It’s a role I could easily imagine Toyoguchi Megumi in, and I think Ayahime does at least as good a job. And she is surrounded by such voices as Hisakawa Aya, Sawashiro Miyuki, Irino Miyu, and Houshi Souichirou. Fabulous OP by Kokia.Ristorante Paradiso (jp: リストランテ・パラディーゾ) A fascinating josei show, following a young woman who comes from the countryside to Rome to the restaurant owned by the partner of her mother, who abandoned her as a child.Through three episodes, it is the story of her desire for one of the handsome bespectacled older gentlemen who staff the place, as she seeks a path toward her future and begins to understand her mother. Not your average anime.K-On! (jp: けいおん���) More comic moe from Kyoto Animation. Once again, as in Lucky Star, they have recruited a cast largely made up of unknowns and newcomers and have enabled them to give hilarious comic performances. Overwhelmingly popular among otaku in Japan, as Lucky Star was.I found my own enjoyment waning slightly after ep3, but this show does have a continuing plot to carry us forward, so it may not fall into the category of "good shows that give you all they have in a couple of episodes." And ep4 brought me back on board.Mio is terrific: a great moe character, super-tsun and SUPER-dere. She's reaching the popularity level of Yuki in Suzumiya Haruhi or Kagami in Lucky Star. Excellent OP and ED by the main cast hit the charts at numbers 3 and 4, but are up to numbers 1 and 2 as of Friday.Guin Saga (jp: グイン・サーガ) Classic fantasy. The first three episodes hold out great promise. War. Capture. Dungeons. Magic. A strong and tragic hero. A beautiful princess (played by Nakahara Mai). And I adore Kanon's ED.Hanasakeru Seishounen (jp: 花咲ける青少年) Endou Aya has become the go-to girl for mistress of a reverse harem. She did it in the most recent Angelique series, and she's doing it again here. And she is outstanding. Her breathy voice is so beautiful, and she gives the character charm and strength. As she did Sheryl in Macross F.In this show, she is Kajika-sama, a boyish teenager who is the cherished daughter of a tycoon and has been raised in isolation on a tropical island. She is bold and handsome, like the leopard that was her constant companion growing up. Outstanding OPED from J-min.Pandora Hearts (jp: パンドラハーツ) I had no idea I would like this show as much as I do. Kawasumi Ayako gives one of the best performances of the year so far as the lovely monster Alice. Good background music from Kajiura Yuki, and a good OP from her group Fiction Junction.Cross Game (jp: クロスゲーム) One of the better new series, a shounen baseball (and maybe romance) anime with great work from people like Irino Miyu, Tomatsu Haruka, and Kanda Akemi. A huge twist in the first episode that sets us up for the rest of the story. Too shounen in style for me (humor, characters, character design), but fairly subtle and restrained. Good OP by Kobukuro and ED by Ayaka.Saki (jp: 咲-Saki-) A yuri moe sports anime about mah jong. I kid you not. I'm enjoying it all, right down to the dramatic music and lightning flashes as tiles are played. Ueda Kana, Koshimizu Ami, Kugimiya Rie, Itou Shizuka, Shiraishi Ryouko, Fukuyama Jun. Mmmm.Tayutama: Kiss on my Deity (jp: タユタマ -Kiss on my Deity-) I hate to admit how much I'm enjoying this show. Another clumsy adaptation by the team behind Lovedol, Amenaideyo, School Days, and Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka. But it's doing a great job of the familiar meme of the goddess who suddenly moves in and declares herself the protagonist's bride. I like Miyazaki Ui's ED. She gets better every time out.Before Green Gables (Konnichiwa Anne) (jp: こんにちは アン) Definitely World Masterpiece Theatre. Well made, although with barely adequate animation. Some people may find the story of Anne before Green Gables a bit old-fashioned. I find it almost too intense to watch.Jewelpet (jp: ジュエルペット) Surprisingly enjoyable little tie-in meant to sell a line of stuffed toys to little girls. The cast is fascinating: Hirano Aya, Sawashiro Miyuki, Sasaki Nozomi, Saitou Ayaka -- and two idols doing their first seiyuu work: Kamei Eri of Morning Musume and singer/photo idol Akina. The stories are for kids, complete with morals about friendship and courage. But the truth of those morals is hard to deny, and the script and characters have something for adults, too.Kin-iro no Corda - second passo (jp: 金色のコルダ ���second passo���) A good start to a two-episode OVA series of the reverse-harem classical music anime. I enjoyed the first series, and this show, too, does a nice job of what it does.kissxsis (jp: kiss×sis) Incest comedy. If those words repel you, don’t watch. If they attract you, you will enjoy this show a lot. Totally over the top, as two sisters compete to get into the pants of their (non-blood-related) younger brother.Koihime†Musou (jp: 恋姫†無双) If you liked the TV series, you'll like this. More ecchi moe ancient China.07-Ghost (jp: 07-Ghost) I didn't expect to like this show, either. But I'm enjoying it so far. Saiga Mitsuki is strong in the lead role. And the story has some punch and some mystery.Asura Cryin' (jp: アスラクライン) I love both the OP and ED songs by angela. A real singer. The anime itself seems a bit limp, but the eps are getting better. The mechas and fights look good to me, though I'm no connoisseur. All this and spirits, too. Irino Miyu, Tomatsu Haruka, and Nonaka Ai are good as the leads.Basquash! (jp: バスカッシュ���) Well-designed mecha. Great backgrounds. Love the OP by Hayami Saori, Tomatsu Haruka, and Nakajima Megumi. And the ED by Yamada Yuu. The character design is good. The story, involving heroic mecha basketball games still hasn’t hooked me, however. This show may have everything except the most important ingredient: interesting writing.Fullmetal Alchemist 2 (jp: 鋼の錬金術師) Appreciated by many, but not by me. I couldn't get through the first series, and this one is just as uninteresting. I can't figure out how to care about the protagonists. A waste of great voice talent, for me (and maybe me alone, lol).Marie & Gali (jp: マリー���ガリー) A trifle, but worth watching for the smart script and interesting animation.Souten Kouro (jp: 蒼天航路) Madhouse gives us the Three Kingdoms from Cao Cao's point of view. Uneven but fascinating. As an OP that gives a good intro to its show, this show's OP may be the best of the season. Some great images and rhythms, and good shouting rock by Tribal Chair. The ED by Ogre You Asshole is also strong.Valkyria Chronicles (jp: 戦場のヴァルキュリア -Gallian Chronicles-) I was enthusiastic at first, but this is bogging down for me. WW2-style small-scale war as a small nation tries to recapture its territory from a greater. A bit of romance. Some tanks. Not exceptionally logical fighting. Good voices.Shangri-La (jp: シャングリ・ラ) A fairly clichéd science fiction adventure that is beginning to be interesting with episode 3. Life in jungle Tokyo after ecological disaster. I love Takahashi Mikako's voice as the heroine. Good OP by May'n.Natsu no Arashi! (jp: 夏のあらし���) Too shounen for me. I just don’t get the humor, and find the lead boy repulsive. But the voices are good (Sanpei Yuuko, Shiraishi Ryouko, Nazuka Kaori), and the show has some interesting aspects: time paradoxes for the win.Shin Mazinger Shougeki Z-Hen (jp: 真マジンガー 衝撃���Z編) A feast for smart mecha fans with a sense of the ridiculous. Over the top, but with great fights and mecha designs.Tears to Tiara (jp: ティアーズ・トゥ・ティアラ) Watchable sword and sorcery shounen fantasy set in a version of ancient Britain and Ireland.Sengoku Basara (jp: 戦国BASARA) Beautiful battles, but feels stupid to me. Probably just not my thing.Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica Crimson S (jp: 神曲奏界ポリフォニカ クリムゾンS) A big improvement over the first series, but still not that interesting. Tomatsu Haruka's Corti is great, though.Queen's Blade (jp: クイーンズブレイド 流浪の戦士) A boob parade. This is one of those shows that assembles a large cast of great seiyuus and then wastes their talents: Kawasumi Ayako, Tanaka Atsuko, Hirano Aya, Noto Mamiko, Kugimiya Rie, Gotou Yuuko, Itou Kanae, Takahashi Mikako, Kitamura Eri, Mizuhashi Kaori…. However, it doesn't waste their talents in the ED, which is done very well by Kawasumi, Noto, and Hirano.Hatsukoi Limited (jp: 初恋限定) Beautiful but boring. Others seem to like this show, but through three episodes, I find it cliched, shallow, unfunny…. Shall I go on? If you liked Tokimeki Memorial, maybe you will like this. I hated that show, too. Good OP from Sphere (Tomatsu Haruka, Takagaki Ayahi, Toyosaki Aki, Kotobuki Minako) and ED by marble.Hayate no Gotoku!! (jp: ハヤテのごとく!!) Well made, magnificently voiced, sometimes funny, and of little interest to me. I got through only a few eps of the first series, so your mileage may vary. Great OP by Elisa, good ED by seiyuus Itou Shizuka, Nakao Eri, Yahagi Sayuri, and Asano Masumi.Gokujou!! Mecha Mote Iinchou (jp: 極上!!めちゃモテ委員長) Trying to emulate the success of Shugo Chara, but it doesn’t work for me. Stiff animation and rough voice-acting. I do appreciate the educational aspects of the show, however.

But writer Kanemaki Kenichi is an old hand, and did shows such as Negima?!, Pani Poni Dash, Jigoku Shoujo, and Natsume Yuujinchou, so he has breadth and depth.I found Tomatsu Haruka harsh and unexpressive in the couple of episodes of the first series I could stand, but now she is a much better seiyuu, and I look forward to hearing what she does with the role of music magician Corticarte this time. The winter season is usually the least exciting of the year, but there are always surprises. Last year, there were true tears and Spice & Wolf. Here are some of this year's possibilities, followed by a complete preview of almost all the new shows:-- Genji Monogatari Sennenki is a new anime based on one of the greatest novels in the history of the world, The Tale of Genji. It's directed by Dezaki Osamu (Rose of Versailles, Oniisama-e), and written by Konparu Tomoko (NANA, Nodame Cantabile). Read more about it below.-- There's also a new season of Maria-sama ga Miteru. That's the complex and delicate tale of yuri relationships in a Catholic girls' school, starring Ueda Kana and Itou Miki, with many other great seiyuu names, including Koshimizu Ami and Kugimiya Rie.-- Hirano Aya and Nana Mizuki will star together in White Album, the story of a new idol (Aya) and a top idol (Nana). Art imitating life.-- Shinbo Akiyuki (Zetsubou Sensei, Hidamari Sketch, PaniPoni, etc.) tries his hand at a cross-dressing school comedy in Maria Holic. The streamed preview version was vintage Shinbo.-- Beast-Player Erin is too long, at 50 episodes, but the novel was written by the same woman who wrote Seirei no Moribito, and it is directed by the director of Library Wars.-- Two super-moe doujin OVAs will come out over the next few days at Comiket: Kowarekake no Orgol, from POP, the illustrator of Moetan; and Musou Kakyou, from people associated with Touhou games.-- I've enjoyed reading the manga (translated as "Black God") and now there is an anime of Kurokami. The director of Emma and the writer of Marimite add some depth, although whether they can capture the great look of the manga remains to be seen.-- Sora wo Miageru Shoujo is the sequel to KyoAni's Munto. I may not love everything KyoAni does, but I like pretty well all of it, so I'm definitely on board for a couple of episodes of this.-- There's a new two-episode OVA of the funniest anime ever made, Ichigo Mashimaro.-- The director of Mai-HiME gets a new group of girls together in Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo, and the girls include Endou Aya, Makino Yui, Yahagi Sayuri, and Koshimizu Ami. I wasn't a big fan of the Mai- series, and this adds mecha, which is not my thing, but Hanada Jukki (Rozen Maiden, sola) is writing this, and with the excellent cast, I just have a feeling it is going to work out.-- Fans of some good shows that I never learned to love will be pleased: Minami-ke gets a new season, and so does Natsume Yuujin Chou. There are new seasons of Birdy the Mighty - Decode, and Shikabane Hime. And there's a highly anticipated new five-episode series of Higurashi.-- The hilarious yuri comedy Candy Boy continues, as does the great science fiction mini-drama Eve no Jikan (ep4 will probably come out in early February). Eve is about the humanness of humanoid robots, and is in the running for my choice as best anime of 2008.-- Also continuing are the excellent character comedy Toradora and the unusual road comedy-drama Michiko to Hatchin, as well as One Outs, Kuroshitsuji, Tales of the Abyss, and To Aru Majutsu no Index.And now here is the full meal: previews of 39 new shows. Unfortunately, the staff does not have enough credentials to hope for high quality. The cast, however, has its high points. Fukuyama Jun is good as the randy harem lead. I look forward to hearing Yuuki Aoi again after her triumph as Murasaki in Kurenai. And Noto Mamiko and Toyoguchi Megumi (Klan in Macross F) are both always interesting.The preview version of episode one has already been streamed. It promises a fairly entertaining third-rate show, with some moe potential. She meets a captivating freshman named Mariya who fits her criteria — except that her seemingly ideal mate happens to be a sadistic, cross-dressing boy.Highly competent cast. I didn't enjoy the manga much, since Maria was so loathsome, but I'm intrigued to see what Shinbo makes of it. This is the first series for director Kujo Rion, who did the Love Doll OVA, and worked on Xenoglossia.Seiyuu names like Hanazawa Kana, Makino Yui, Nabatame Hitomi, Satou Rina, Tamura Yukari, Tomatsu Haruka, Konishi Katsuyuki, and Yahagi Sayuri are exciting. Why didn't I look at more than half an episode of the first series? One of the few unknowns in a cast of huge names is the star, Kenn. Director Chigira Kouichi did both Full Metal Panic and Last Exile. Sound director Gouda Hozumi is a big-name seiyuu who also did sound direction for shows like Zettai Shounen and Vampire Knight.The protagonist is a strong-willed young champion who is battling his way up the great world-tower toward the treasures above, and the evil lord at the top. A female oracle, a mage, a child, various warriors — this anime fits squarely in its genre. I guess that genre may be why I didn’t take this show seriously before. She is a protector, and finds herself making a contract of power with a human young man to save his arm, which had been ripped off by one of her enemies. He is the tsundere in the relationship; and he has an oneesan osananajimi who secretly loves him. Kuro herself is an innocent powerful puppy.Strong cast stars Shitaya Noriko, who was Himeko in Kannazuki no Miko, and Namikawa Daisuke, who was Rock in Black Lagoon and Iks in The Third. With Ohara Sayaka, Nakata Jouji, and Tamura Yukari.Director Kobayashi Tsuneo did Emma and Twelve Kingdoms. Top writer Yoshida Reiko (Marimite, RomeoxJuliet) does the adaptation. The OP is by Kuribayashi Minami and the ED by the enjoyable two-member electro-goth group, Yousei Teikoku ("Fairy Empire"), whose lead singer is sometime-seiyuu Itsuki Yui.This could be a good one. Simultaneous dubbed broadcast on iaTV cable in the US. The trailer looks a little too cleaned up compared to the manga. We'll see how this goes. This blog is named after characters in the novel. But the staff and cast make it look as if this anime could actually turn out to be a good adaptation. Anything to bring the Genji to a wider audience.Sakurai Takahiro (Fakir in Princess Tutu, the Medicine Seller, Suzaku) has a chance to create a fine version of the brilliant, beautiful, sincere, responsible libertine Prince Genji. Tamagawa Sakiko (Onashia in Simoun) is a cinch as the tragic empress Fujitsubo. HOW TO VOTE1. In the Main AwardsIn my pieces on the previous two years of the Awards, I made a point of not explaining how to vote. I thought that if you didn't at least understand some Japanese, it might not make sense for you to vote. But I got over that, lol. I don't think foreigners are going stuff the ballot boxes. Not based on my blog, anyway. I don't get that much traffic.On the Seiyuu Awards website, there is a voting page. On that page are boxes that you use to input your vote: first, you enter your e-mail address (required), then for each category, there is a smaller box to input the name you are voting for, and a larger box for any comments you might want to make, such as what show you liked them in. Write only Japanese and no English, just to be courteous. And also so that we don't upset people at Awards HQ.The names of all the nominees are given in Japanese at the end of their line in the nominees list above, in this post, so that you can copy and paste to vote. The names of the categories are given, too.The voting page starts with some explanation. Scroll down to get to the voting boxes. Here is what the first part of the voting section of the page looks like:There's the space for your e-mail, at the top. Then it says 主演男優賞, which means "Leading Performance Male Actor Award." The box beside that is for you to paste in the name. Copy the Japanese characters carefully and paste them into the box. The bigger box beneath that is for comments (as I said, in Japanese, please).Next comes 主演女優賞, "Leading Performance Female Actor Award." The long box next to that is for the name, and the bigger box beneath is for comments.The next category is 助演男優賞, "Supporting Performance Male Actor Award." And so on down the page. Voting in the Overseas Fans' Choice AwardsVoting in these awards is pretty simple. Just go to this page and follow the instructions, which are in English. You enter your e-mail address (required), then the name of the voice actor or actress you like, then write in the larger box which performance(s) of theirs you liked.It doesn't say anything about whether it should just be for a performance from this year, but that makes sense to me. In any case, I voted for my favorite performance of 2008, which was Koshimizu Ami as Horo in Spice & Wolf.I should add that I gave two different e-mail addresses for the two sets of awards, just in case they didn't want to let one e-mail address vote in both. The system said it accepted my votes.C. How I votedMale lead: Kishio Daisuke as Kaname in Vampire Knight Guilty. I found him dark, serious and deep in both the original series and Guilty, but especially in Guilty, where we get closer to the heart of the story. Kishio's Kaname is a man of few words, but the words have great effect. Anyway, if I had been Yuuki, there is no doubt who I would have chosen from the start.Female lead: Koshimizu Ami as Horo in Spice & Wolf. I had decided who to vote for in this year's awards from about episode two of this show, last January. Amisuke's performance as a 500-year-old wolf goddess in the form of a teenage girl was amazing. Some great competitors came up during the year, but none could unseat her: Tomatsu Haruka is wonderful as Nagi in Kannagi, but Ami is more consistent and more dramatic. Paku Romi blows me away as Kuromitsu in Kurozuka, but she won two years ago. I love all the other performances listed in the nominations, especially Hirano Aya's as Chiko in Nijuumensou no Musume, and Kugimiya Rie's as Taiga in Toradora, but none reaches the same level as those first three, for me.Male supporting: Gouda Hozumi as Hani Meijin in Shion no Ou. He was a looming presence throughout the story in this little-watched show. Kamiya Hiroshi was extremely strong as Michel/Mikhail in Macross Frontier, and I could easily have voted for him.Female supporting: Sawashiro Miyuki has become a favorite of mine, and her Tsugumi in Kannagi has been a revelation: light, vivid, flexible, emotive, and subtly hilarious. I almost voted for Toyoguchi Megumi as Klan in Macross Frontier. Big Klan is a great character, and little Klan is almost as strong. Two great characters from one voice.Male newcomer: Maeno Tomoaki is the man. Doujo in Library Wars just rivets your attention whenever he appears. But Maeno also did another haunting character, the taciturn Gouta in the underrated near-masterpiece Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Mono - Natsu no Sora.Female newcomer: Since I didn't vote for her as top lead, this has to be Tomatsu Haruka (Nagi). I really have never heard a more varied and interesting comic character. She is still learning her trade, but she has such great vocal and comic tools. Her voice is a bit harsh for my taste, but she can leave the soft and pretty to others. If this great performance hadn't come along, I would probably have voted for Takagaki Ayahi, Noe in true tears, who really wove a spell. But I would have no problem at all with Endou Aya winning it either, as she probably will. Her Sheryl was another great character, and she also created something as the voice of Angelique in the new and improved version of that shoujo fantasy series. If Endou-san wins, that will mean that three of the four leads in Lucky Star have won this award: Hirano Aya, Katou Emiri, and Endou. Some may see that as the fix being in, but it seems adequately deserved in all cases, to me.Singer: I have a thing for Hayami Saori. I think she has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. Anywhere. Not only does she have a natural musicality and ability to give a song interest and meaning, but her tonal quality is sublime. She is still learning, and I hope she will come out with an album soon, and start being able to do on stage what she can do on CD. She's an entertaining and capable personality on her radio show, too -- especially for a 17-year-old. Certainly Tomatsu Haruka does a wonderful job with the OP and ED for Kannagi. Mizuki Nana is a great star loved by many. Chihara Minori is a good singer. And I liked some of Hirano Aya's work this year. But I expect Nakajima Megumi to win the award -- and deservedly -- for her fresh and moving singing as Ranka in Macross Frontier.Personality: This is a tough one for me, since I don't listen to much seiyuu radio or watch too many clips from seiyuu TV -- and my Japanese isn't equal to all the subtleties when I do. I was tempted to abstain. But I voted for Hirano Aya. I am captivated by every appearance of hers I have heard or seen. So sue me.

KOEI has recently updated their TGS homepage with a couple of the titles to be shown at this years TGS 2008 show. I am however interested in the new GUNDAM Musou and Surprise! Neo Angelique for PSP. It took me quite a while to churn out another Neo Angelique writeup, all because I felt guilty after poking fun at this series in my previous posts. Not only did I insult this anime with my sarcastic comments, I also scared off guys who I should’ve helped become more open-minded about this under-appreciated show. My sarcasm basically clouded the rest of the serious opinion I had for the series, and it makes me ashamed of having churned out that kind of post. This show deserves far more than that kind of bastardization, it needs MOAR LOVE, and so I took the time to do some soul-searching with regards to what I'm gonna write, not just another uninspiring LOL kind that I have written in the past.

Silent Moe with a meganekko fetish (She loves G.Ikari's glasses lolwut) put her VERY high on my moe list.BEHOLD! THE FIRST CHILD BORN OF THE WOMB OF AWESOME.And oddly enough, I have a 5-2-2 for this group. heh.And for group 16, LS dominance all the way. Shocking, but seeing as KyoAni has a rabid fanbase, it'll be safe to comment that this may not have gone unforseen, Shihou gets a fair share of the limelight in the ISML, but competition here will be a whole new ball game, due to the different demographic.And Haruhi is in, but she may not get far. After all, she has few redeeming moe moments, even within the doujin engine, where she's most commonly portayed now as a total victim of raep tendencies or drunken hazes.And for group 17, not many girls I like there, but I will say this:Yuno fans, stand by ready!
