What impresses me is that this went 52 episodes .. with plans for a second season in the future. I know there are ridiculously longer series, but not one of this genre I think. Hirano Aya's first full album comes out on 16 July, and the name of the album will be...Riot Girl.I can't help but compare this with the original Riot Grrrl movement. To quote Wikipedia: "Riot grrrl...is an underground feminist punk movement that started in the early 1990s.... Riot grrrl bands often address issues such as rape, domestic abuse, sexuality, and female empowerment. Some bands associated with the movement are: Bikini Kill, Bratmobile, Le Tigre, Excuse 17, Free Kitten...."Aya's rock can be a little rough around the edges, but nowhere near as rough as, say, Bratmobile (YouTube). Once again, much as I like Aya's music, she seems a bit of a wannabe at this punk stuff -- which, if you watch the Bratmobile video, might be a good thing.In any case, the album will feature a number of Aya's old songs (Breakthrough, Bouken Desho Desho, last year's three singles, etc.), as well as some original material. Besides starring in two current anime -- Nijuumensou no Musume and Zettai Karen Children -- Aaya has been doing live events, appearing on radio and TV, doing PS2 games, has a couple of interesting drama CDs coming up, and is already slated for one fall anime and three summer OVAs. In anime, both Nijuumensou no Musume and Zettai Karen Children will go right through the summer. A Lucky Star OVA will be released sometime this summer. And Aya appears in Macross Frontier as the Indian crew member Mina.She will appear in future episodes of the OVA Amuri in Star Ocean as Femina. The next episode of the show will be released on July 25. She will also appear in the OVA series School Rumble 3 as Sasakura Youko, with an episode scheduled for release on 27 July. She will also play, alongside Miyano Mamoru (Light) and Takeuchi Junko (Naruto), in Eguzamurai, an OVA featuring members of the pop group EXILE. Release date will be sometime in July.In the fall, she will be in the mecha anime Kurogane no Linebarrels, in the supporting role of Mika, alongside an all-star cast including Noto Mamiko, Kakihara Tetsuya, Nakamura Yuuichi, Fukuyama Jun, Sawashiro Miyuki, Ueda Kana, Kugimiya Rie, Nakata Jouji, Ohara Sayaka, Saitou Chiwa, and Shitaya Noriko. In her work as a "personality" and idol there is her second idol DVD, Love Story, which came out last month. She continues to host two radio shows: Animelo Mix and Say Good Luck.And she appears every Friday as host of the hour-long film review and interview corner of the Web TV show Midtown TV. Her segment is called "Cinema Renaissance, Princess Aya's Castle." She dresses in a new outfit each week and is co-host with three guys. Her Moegaku 5 kids' show is over, but the DVD of the entire series will go on sale at the beginning of August. In pure voiceover work, her voice is still heard weekly on the NHK edutainment program Kaitai Shin Show. But I'm not sure if these are new progams or repeats.And having been one of the subjects of NHK's Anime Giga interview show, on 2 June she will get the honor of appearing on the NHK show Top Runner, which broadcasts features on top performers in the arts. The week before will feature the band Acidman, and the week after will do photographer Ume Kayo. The show's feature from a few years ago on singer Onitsuka Chihiro turned me on to this show.In live events, she has already been busy. There was a recent Galaxy Angel live event. And she had a mini-live in March connected with the three singles she released last fall. And another in April for the release of her single unnamed world, the Nijuumensou no Musume ED. There will be an event for the Love Story DVD in Tokyo on 22 June. And she will be in Animelo Summer Live 2008, along with Mizuki Nana, Ali Project, Suara, Savage Genius and a long list of other top anime music acts. Let's hope she can do a better job than last year, when she had microphone problems and then was far from her best singing live. In games, she continues to do only all-ages games. She is in a DS Katekyousha Hitman reborn game that came out at the beginning of May. The PS2 game Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka comes out Thursday in Japan. She will be in a Memories Off PS2 game that comes out in July. A Railway Girls DS game will come out this fall. The PS3 version of Trusty Bell will be out sometime this year. And a Wii version of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu is in the works.It's one of her two upcoming drama CDs that interests me most. On 24 July, she will appear with Tai Yuuki, Yamamoto Maria, and Kanda Akemi in Gakuen Sousei Nekoten (学園創世猫天). But before that, on June 25, she will appear in a drama CD version of the popular TV dorama Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu with Ishida Akira and Ogata Megumi. In the story, a boy's mother dies, but he remembers the story she wrote for him, about a mother who died but promised to reappear at a certain time and place. The boy and his dad go there and find her, but she has no memory of her life with them. Aya has the lead role of the mother. I certainly hope this becomes an anime, because the story is moving, and the mainly serious role would give Aya another character to really sink her teeth into.So far this year, the two best female lead seiyuu performances I have seen are Koshimizu Ami as Horo in Wolf & Spice, and Aya as Chiko in Nijuumensou no Musume. If this show becomes an anime, I have hopes that Aya could reach similar heights again.

Sawashiro Miyuki 沢城みゆき has joined the Theatre Gekidango (Theatre劇団子) comedy troupe. The group performs live and creates video comedy sketches that are shown on TV.Miyukichi (her nickname) performed in their Harukanaru Yama de Yahoho 遥かなる山でヤッホッホ (I think that means something like "Off to the Distant Mountains, Yohoho!") last November.The show was also broadcast on Sky Perfect satellite TV for several days in January."Gekidango" is a play on words, involving gekidan ("theatre group") and dango (a kind of sweet dumpling). Viewers of Clannad will be familiar with the dango, which is featured in the ED.The group's irreverent comedy style reminds me a bit of Saturday Night Live, Second City, or even Monte Python. One of the group's members, 31-year-old Takahashi Kazumi, says her rebellious period hasn't ended yet -- and will never end. I think that's the group's style. You can see a sample of their work (without Miyukichi) on YouTube. That sample doesn't require much Japanese. Other samples require more.One of the group's recent podcasts is a welcome party for Miyukichi and another new member, Shiraishi Yuuka.Miyukichi is one of the top actors among current seiyuu. She got her first role as Petit Charat at 13 in the public audition for Di Gi Charat. You can see a video of those auditions on YouTube (part 1, part 2).At 22, she has already played in over 75 anime series, including such roles as big sister Iina in Kokoro Toshokan (when she was 16), Mint Blancmange in Galaxy Angel, Shinku in Rozen Maiden, Ibara-hime in Otogizushi Akazukin, Aruruu in Utawarerumono, Claire in Red Garden, Reika in Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun, and Hagino in Blue Drop. Not to mention large numbers of OVAs, movies, dubbing, drama CDs and music CDs.There is an excellent video compendium of her roles on YouTube.She is known as a quiet and serious person, who is always studying something, from swimming to story-telling to cooking. She is now a university student as well as a working seiyuu.She is also known as someone who does not hesitate to correct other people's mistakes, even people who are older than she is. I think there may be a lot of herself in Shinku.The pictures here come from her page on a Theater Gekidango fansite. Fans have commented about this last picture (right) that it shows Miyukichi's tongue is extremely long. All the better to create the amazing range of voices you can hear in the video compendium of her roles.

Hirano Aya will play Yukiko in a new Lupin III OVA, Green vs. Red, which is due out in April.This is the 40th anniversary production for the classic franchise, which includes numerous manga, TV anime, feature films, direct-to-video releases, television specials, music CDs, video games, and a musical, as well as a Hollywood movie, slated to come out in 2009.This spring, Aya will also be in a Fist of the North Star OVA, as well as the series Zettai Karen Children.She is currently hosting Moegaku 5, a language-learning program for kids, five days a week on TV. Starting February 1, she will co-host a weekly variety TV show about movies, called Cinema Renaissance -- Aaya City 「キネマルネッサンス　あ～や城」 on Midtown TV on the web TV channel GyaO.She is in the game Appreach Majyan (associated with Final Approach 2) of which a version is now available for free download from Princess Soft. She is billed fifth in the cast, after Katou Emiri, Sendai Eri, Toyoguchi Megumi, and Hisakawa Aya.She does the voice of a cat (or maybe cats) in the film Honjitsu no Nekojijyo, which comes out on DVD 22 February.She plays Ilona in the animated part of the film Renaissance, which is now on sale in DVD.She plays the fairy Emily in a Hello Kitty anime now on TV in Japan on Kitty's Paradise: Apple Forest - Parallel Town.And she is host or co-host of three different current radio shows: Animelo Mix, Say Good Luck, and the radio show for the game Ramen Angel Pretty Menma, in which she is Menma.She will appear in a Galaxy Angelune live show on 27 February. And she will have her own mini-lives for last fall's CD singles on march 1 in Osaka and March 15 in Tokyo.And there are more versions of Suzumiya Haruhi games coming out. There was a wild rumor that she was giving up the character Haruhi, but her presence in the new games puts the lie to that. Rumors are that the second Haruhi anime series will start either this fall or next spring.All these bits and pieces add up to a lot of work, but it is not straight anime work. Cast lists for spring anime are just appearing, so she may be in more than one show.Her idol work continues apace, however. She is in Guam right now for some kind of photo-shoot.The photos on her blog have suddenly become larger. She says that she has a new cellphone, and by checking the posted photos with the program Exif Reader, I can say that it is an NTT DoCoMo N905i, which features a 5mpx camera with face detection.I found out about Exif Reader from the 2channel Aaya thread, where someone used it to show that the photos of a Christmas party she posted on Christmas Day were actually shot December 21. The poster and others came to the conclusion, from other blog posts, that she spent Christmas alone, eating Italian food. Lol. What a world is 2channel.

Click images to enlarge.Nothing seems like an instant classic, but there are plenty of shows to try, including Kyoto Animation's long-awaited Clannad; a new Gundam; Shion no Ou, starring Kawasumi Ayako and Paku Romi, about a schoolgirl chess prodigy who stopped speaking as a child when her parents were killed before her eyes; Blue Drop, which involves a relationship between a high-school girl and a female alien spy; Nougami Neuro, the detective from hell; DaCapo II; Mokke, about two sisters who see and interact with spirits, starring Kawasumi Ayako and Mizuki Nana; Sketchbook, which is from a 4-panel comic and may have echoes of Lucky Star and Hidamari Sketch; Dragonaut, made by Gonzo but starring VAs associated with KyoAni; Bamboo Blade, seinen school comedy from a popular manga; Genshiken 2; Shakugan no Shana 2; KimiKiss, with its excellent staff and cast; ef - a tale of memories, a game conversion made by Oonuma Shin, working under Shinbou, and with music by Tenmon; a new Tsubasa OVA with a new staff, written by the person who wrote Cardcaptor Sakura; and possibly the most interesting of all: Ghost Hound, Production IG's 20th anniversary production.Shows are listed by day of the week, with OVAs last. The anime is intriguing for its staff and cast. Director Ishiyama Takaaki did Otogijushi Akazukin, which was beautifully made, and there are hints of a similar world here.Lead writer Inoue Toshiki adapted Death Note and Sumomomo Momomo, as well as doing all or most of the Galaxy Angel series. As their calm and peaceful days of youth progress, the sisters have many encounters which lead them to respect and treasure life and all its beauties and marvels. A seinen slice-of-life comedy from a manga by the author of Today in Class 2-5. The manga has a bit of that show's fanservice. What worries me is that the animation house, Doumu, had its credibility damaged by the great inconsistency of the animation in Yoake-mae yori Ruri-iro na ~ Crescent Love, and that show's director, Oota Masahijo, is doing this show, too. As with Futakoi (also produced by Starchild), a second series with the same name and a completely different staff -- but maybe the same voice actors -- will begin in January.Great cast includes Satou Rina (Negi in Negima) as the responsible elder sister; Inoue Marina (Yoko in Gurren-Lagann) as the rambunctious middle sister; Chihara Minori (Yuki in Suzumiya Haruhi, in her third starring role this season) as the quiet youngest sister; Mizuki Nana; Morinaga Rika (Mamiina in Simoun); Kakihara Tetsuya (Simon in Gurren-Lagann); Ono Daisuke (in his third role of the fall); and Kitamura Eri (also in her third role). oct10 sun25:30 AnimeSuki.Juushin Enbu - Hero Tales 獣神演武　- HERO TALES -. Kaiji is a layabout and gambler who is saddled with a friend's huge gambling debt and ends up on a ship where he has to win at gambling to get free. He is far from brilliant, but with his back against the wall, he somehow keeps coming through, despite the presence of some very evil bad guys. He is apparently weak, selfish and stupid, but is nevertheless a rich character liked by fans of both sexes — there is male nudity in the manga, and there are almost no female characters.Stars Hagiwara Masato, who was Akagi in Akagi and Takuya in The Place Promised in Our Early Days. Yako's father was murdered in a locked room. She meets a man named Nougami Neuro who turns out to be a demon from Hell who "eats riddles." He forces Yako to act as a detective so he can solve mysteries. Don't you already have this fella!?', demanded Natsuki, shaking the frozen Haruka lol. Akiho calmly explained that it's true but from the start it's been Haruka who's been closing after her. She added that Fuyuka and Haruka's different, Fuyuka's more like a girl, more matured, understanding, has boobs lol, gentle and mild, to say that she changed her feelings, it's not unexpected. Natsuki had no choice but to agree while Haruka was whinning out for Akiho lol. Besides, Akiho said that she heard that both Fuyuka and Natsuki had not 'consummate' their relationship yet so it's not of Natsuki's business that she's courting Fuyuka. Taunting Natsuki, Akiho added that if she likes someone she will make her hers quickly, just like this ... making her purpose clear of kissing Fuyuka. Just then, Reiko-sensei and Ayano-sensei were alerted by the noises the fangirls made, found out that Haruka and Natsuki were in a 'fight' at the rooftop and went to stop them. Natsuki lunged forward and slapped Akiho, declaring that Fuyuka's hers and she would never give Fuyuka to Akiho. Haruka's pissed that Natsuki slapped her Akiho as Natsuki pulled Fuyuka towards her ... then Fuyuka punched Natsuki lol. Fuyuka yelled out that Akiho's fault but all because of Natsuki's wishy-washy attitude that she couldn't figure out what's Natsuki's feelings and had to ask for Akiho's advices. Understanding the situation, Reiko-sensei and Ayano-sensei sent the watching fangirls away and closed the door. Akiho told Fuyuka not to get so worked up and explained she had did the earlier action on purpose, but then the truth's out, Natsuki IS in love with Fuyuka. Akiho continued to question why Natsuki kept her distance from Fuyuka if so. Natsuki explained that she used to fall in love with one of the screaming fangirls of hers, the girl also replied that she likes her so Natsuki thought that they could go out seriously together. But just when the girl knew that Natsuki's serious, she became afraid and avoided Natsuki all together. From then, Natsuki realized that people's 'like' has different levels. After that, meeting Fuyuka, from the start Natsuki thought that Fuyuka's cute and wanted to tease her. As time pass, as they hung out together more, the 'like' became more ... But Natsuki knew that Fuyuka had only began healing from a previous 'scare' and if she were to be passionate in her actions, she feared she might be hated by Fuyuka and was confused. Fuyuka's touched by Natsuki's words and thought to herself that the more each other like each other, the more insecured they become and fear to touch each other. They were harbouring the same feelings but both afraid to move a step. Akiho grasped that everything's fine now and told Haruka to leave them. Haruka's still confused about everything lol and asked Akiho what's all about. Akiho explained that the Big Bad Wolf fell seriously in love with Little Red Riding Hood and thus couldn't bare to 'eat' her up ... something like that lol. Haruka still don't get it lol. Akiho then apologized to Haruka about scaring her that she likes Fuyuka, Haruka agreed about the scare. Akiho added that but then she trusted Haruka to be understanding about it and assured the only one she likes is Haruka. Haruka's delighted about it and replied that she did trusted Akiho earlier and that's why she's fine lol. Akiho teased Haruka that it doesn't seem so from Haruka's 'stoned' and whinny expressions earlier lol. Track 04. 不安 [Insecurity] ;Picking up from the rooftop, Fuyuka apologized to Natsuki and confessed she's afraid too and only merely waited for Natsuki to take action. So then, Fuyuka affirmed to Natsuki she likes her ... and it's the 'carnal desire' kind of 'like' she declared LOL. Fuyuka continued that isn't that desire expected? ... because of 'like', she would want to know everything of Natsuki and to touch her everything ... to the extent of wanting to be one with her and grasping tightly to her side, never letting go. Natsuki smiled and replied that she wanted too. Kissing Fuyuka, Natsuki too confessed she likes Fuyuka just like wanting to be one with her. With their feelings sorted out, they giggled and Fuyuka once again invited Natsuki to her home on Saturday and she's alone at home too. Natsuki happily agreed to go and Fuyuka breathed a sigh of relief that their 'like' were the same. Fuyuka learnt that although there were many different levels of 'like', one should not be wishy-washy, merely wait and be afraid to make the first step but be able to pick the courage and convey the feelings to the other party. Fuyuka teased Natsuki about looking forward to a 'fun-filling' scene this Saturday and left Natsuki going 'EHHHH!??' probably confused cos she's supposed to be the lead!? LOL. Natsuki even used the more feminine/neutral 'watashi' instead of her boyish 'boku' here lol. The manga ended more funny, an extract from the first bed scene between Fuyuka and Natsuki on Saturday, Fuyuka surprisingly is the lead [in Yaoi terms, Seme lol] and Natsuki's the bottom, [Uke! lol] held against the bed. Fuyuka was like in 'heh heh heh' mode assuring Natsuki that it's alright because she did some reading and research about it and Natsuki went 'EHHHH!??!', confused lol.Hope you enjoyed this Drama CD as much as I do, hopefully, more of such Drama CDs in future XD.
