Yamaki's Anime Blog: Remedial Anime Awards, April 2007

Just to make the long story as short as possible, I'll go directly into the story and skip those minor minor details. And if possible, not to talk about the Ijok by-elections, our new king installation and Air TV & OAV's licensening in North America by ADV, in which all three happened earlier this week, lol. But hey, that had proved that, whatever they had said about harem animes being a waste of source, is totally not true!See that black CD reader up there? That's not any ordinary CD Writer, but it's a DVD Rewriter; In other words, it's a DVD Burner. In short... NOW I CAN BURN DVDs! In that case, I am able to save a lot of my limited computer hard drive space easily by moving over 4GB at a time into DVDs. ...however, it's weird. The place where I plan to buy those DVD discs happened to run out of stock! Fu-yoh! Maybe all those cetak rompak (pirated DVD) manufacturer needed more DVD and so, cheap DVD discs have been having a stronger demand? ;_;So, about what I have watched for this whole month of April, I have to admit that I have been rather lazy. Other than Shuffle! and Honey & Clover, or some Kanon, other than that, I haven't been any other animes. I plan to pick up Lucky Star and Sola, but in that case, I have to finish up those animes I have in hand right now, namely Honey & Clover, Shuffle!, Tsubasa Chronicles and Negima! as well as Digimon Savers, but I plan to do that one slowly. I plan to drop Tonagura and Tenpou Ibun Ayashi Ayakashi. So, maybe after I finish at least two of the 'currently watching' animes, I'd pick up the two new animes. Okay, back on to the awards. I have to deeply appologize, but due to my laziness in watching different anime titles, all of the awards would go to Shuffle!. In other words, I have only been watching Shuffle! this month. And maybe an episode of Honey & Clover, perhaps. I'm still waiting for hughwong's supply of the anime. =\ There would be no best OP/ED for the month. Best Male Character: Takemoto Yuta (Honey & Clover)Takemoto portrays the life of an ordinary, typical student studying in an art university, being trapped in the feeling of love for another girl but end up in somesort of love triangle.Best Female Character: Primula (Shuffle!)Despite being very sick to the level that her life's on the line, she'd still refuse to go back to the Demon Realm. The two lords, Eustoma and Forbesii revealed that she's not human nor demon nor god, but a clone. The researchers' hypothesis was that if Primula were able to develop emotion, she would be able to control her huge amount of magic. And that was why she was allowed to stay with Rin and Kaede...Best Non-Human Character: Cat doll (Shuffle!)The doll which Lycoris handed over to Primula before evaporating into thin air. Primula cherished it a lot.Best Villian: Lisianthus's twin sister (Shuffle!)Accordingly, she is Sia-chan's twin sister which was never wanted to be borned. Much more aggressive than Sia-chan, causing Rin to become evasive to her.Best OP: NoneBest ED: NoneBest SceneYou're looking Eustoma and Forbesii's best looks ever. They're indeed the lords of the demon and god race respectively. Usually we see them as a whimp, especially Eustoma who was usually beaten by her daughter, but now, they look rather neat, cool, and powerful.Best Quote: "Furthermore, we're powerless against a girl's plea."Forbesii and Eustoma's reply to Rin, who was determined to see Primula in the Demon's Realm. The laboratory was a restricted place, but since both Lisianthus and Nerine begged their fathers, the lords weren't able to do much.Best Seiyuu: None

Yuri to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito: Tonagura! Finally finished -_-;;

| Yes, you too can feel like this by watching Tonagura…
Yes, I have finslly finished watching the piece of fluff that is Tonagura from a couple of seasons back. If you can remember that far back, I vaguely enthused about it at the beginning, as I thought it showed promise, what with there being an [...]

Novastorm: Tonagura! Episodes 9 & 10

Rating: 7/10 & 7/10
Impressions:
Ehh, Tonagura got rather crap, if I must say. It’s probably more that the quality dropped a mile since I’m pretty picky with that stuff, but even so, the new obstacle that Kazuki and Yuuji have to overcome is far too generic. Sure, there has to be a jealous stage that every [...]

Anime Desho Desho?: Hatsune gave me Onee-chan complex

I’m not sure how many of you guys are still following Tonagura, but if you still are, you’ll probably understand why I love this anime.
It’s unfortunate that Tonagura happens to be one of the those animes that get shafted by slow subbing and the typical ‘gah fanservice haremish anime‘ bash.

Beneath the fanservice- which by [...]

Yuri to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito: Lesbian Incest - how we love thee…

Oh how refreshing it was to see more lesbian incest without the creepy homicidal overtones of Full Metal Panic - The Second Raid.
Go Tonagura!

Makes you wonder about the Japanese family ethic O_o

Novastorm: Tonagura: Episode 8

Impressions:
I am really impressed with this episode. The story wasn’t all that bad and the quality stayed quite high. I think the quality this episode might have been the highest in the series, though I can’t remember the first few episodes that clearly. The only exception is the part where almost everyone stuffs up on: [...]

Novastorm: Tonagura: Episode 7

Impressions:
How ironic, I had been complaining about how subs for this show weren’t being released fast enough, and now I’m behind…Anyway, episode 7 was not as good as the last, mainly because it wasn’t funny and it didn’t have a good story. Last episode was much stronger in the latter part, and most the other [...]

Tenjou: Anime Review: Zero no Tsukaima

Title: Zero's Familiar / Zero no Tsukaima / ゼロの使い魔Anime Genre: Comedy, Fantasy, Harem, RomanceDate of Airing: 2nd July 2006Date Concluded: 24th September 2006No. of Episodes: 13No. of Episodes Watched: 13"Pink haired Potter?"Well, I must say that exams and a confounded PC do not make for a particularly generous setting for anime watching/downloading or blogging. The latter of which I very much regret...my blog's kinda grown on me, so it's an injustice that it has to lie dormant for so long. =( After around 3 weeks of getting the final 5 episodes of Zero no Tsukaima (henceforth ZnT), I've finally managed to finish the damn series. Pathetic? Hell yeah! ;)So, here's my review on it. I've decided to change the format of the review and make it slightly more ordered and concise (I hope) for the purposes of:i) Easier readingii) Less yapping from me = less typing ^^So, read on!Plot Synopsis:Well, you could probably get this on ANN or AniDB, but it's required for a review, okay? =P So, we have Louise Francoise de la Valliere of Tristein Magic Academy (or Hogwarts if you so please), or better known as Louise the Zero, so named due to her lack of successes in casting any sort of magic spell. The students at the academy have a familiar summoning ceremony which she must attend. At the ritual, lo and behold, Louise manages to defy the odds and summon a familiar. Only her familiar turns out to be Hiraga Saito, normal teenage boy from Japan. He's stuck here, and she's stuck with him, so it begins.Louise the Zero, and aptly named too.Setting/Story:At first glance, just like I mentioned some time ago in first impressions, the setting of the anime appears to be very much a rip-off of Harry Potter's famed Hogwarts. 2nd and 3rd glances don't do much to change my view, so yes, it is somewhat a Harry Potter rip-off, but not in a bad way. The world is always blindingly colourful (Louise's pink hair included) and makes for pleasant viewing throughout the 13 episode series. The story is pretty much the synopsis, except that Saito finds that he's pretty attractive to a few girls in school, making it a little harem-y. He's also trying to find a way back to Japan, which he does, in a way. There are a few twists, but I don't think the producers ever meant it to exercise your brain.Score: 6/10Characters:Saito's your stereotypical, likeable Japanese boy, voiced by Hino Satoshi who also did Yuuji in Shakugan no Shana (SnS). And Louise is rather cute, discounting all her temper flares and her 'dog-treatment' of Saito. Hmm...actually that's rather cute too. Her seiyuu is Kugimiya Rie, who was Shana in SnS. See what I'm getting at? The problem with me was that I've seen SnS, so watching the pair of Saito and Louise in ZnT was like watching brighter, more colourful versions of Yuuji and Shana in SnS. You see, SnS is a pretty nice show, with a rather dark story etc. etc. (if you haven't watched it, go see for yourself), so their very similar portrayal of the characters in both shows (Shana & Louise get angry alot/Yuuji & Saito are innocently dumb alot) kinda detracted from the experience for me. That's not to say they did a bad job, on the contrary, in fact. Just try not to watch the 2 animes too closely together. The rest of the cast, from Henrietta to Kirche are all what you woould expect from an anime of this sort, but they play their parts well enough. I paticularly liked watching Guiche squirm in the face of Montmorency or any slightly threatening situation, lol. Stale roles, with a rather entertaining execution keeps things interesting.Score: 7/10Shana with pink hair...deja vu.Saito and Guiche.Animation:Animation is very nice. Though if colours and happy thoughts aren't your cup of tea, then this may disappoint. Think Negima and not Trinity Blood/Blood+. Overall, I thought the animation pretty much suited the show perfectly.Score: 7/10Music:As with most animes, the opening and ending songs are catchy tunes sung by women with dog-whistle octaves in their vocal range. Okay, I'm kidding. But, the songs are nothing to shout about and I really didn't like Kugimiya Rie's execution of the end song 'The Real Feeling'. Cringe-inducing. Music in the show is in the same department as the animation, happy and colourful.Score: 5/10Metal polish does wonders on rust.Verdict:Harem, love, and some heroics in Hogwarts Academy, Nagoya, Japan. Lol. This was like ordering a huge burger and not being able to finish it. The show started out really well to me, but around the 3/4 mark, the plot just became a bit tired, and you can really see what's going to happen next. But, it's still a burger I managed to munch down.Princess Henrietta, dressed to kill, literally.Worth Your Time?Well, if you're the "I download all anime, new or old!" kind of person, then why even read this? If you're not though, then yes, it's worth your time and bandwidth (or money if you want). However, I wouldn't recommend it to people who only watch Gundam, Naruto, Bleach and nothing else. ^^Overall Score: If You Liked This, You May Like:Love Hina, Tonagura!, Inukami!, REC>>> AnimaniaTags: Animation, Anime, Japanese Animation, Manga, Zero no Tsukaima, Louise Valiel, Hiraga Saito, Tenjou

Novastorm: Tonagura: Episode 6

Impressions:
It looks Tonagura! has made a huge jump in terms of quality. The last episode, the character animation was very inconsistent; of the cheeks were too wide or the face to long etc. This time, I didn’t detect any noticeable deformations. Not only that, a few very nice shots were thrown in as well. The [...]
