I don't think there were any huge battles at stake, but boy, we're coming down to the end of the first round brackets!  Today's Battles 8/27 Evangeline McDowell Mikoto Misaka I'm sure it'll come to no surprise that magical loli Evangeline A.K. McDowell, of Negima fame, won her bracket without much difficulty-- it looks like a lot of people didn't even bother voting-- the winner of the second battle had more votes than almost any two of the first battle combined. Of course, Evangeline's competition wasn't all that strong: Zettai Karen Children's Mio Tsukushi, Chrome Shelled Regios' Felli Loss, and Kyouran Kazoku Nikki's Yuuka Midarezaki. Score one for the witches!Across the aisle, A Certain Magical Index's Mikoto Misaka took the win with 450 points, about 268 more than the second placer, Sawako Yamanaka (from K-On!). She beat Shigofumi's Chiaki by over 300 points, and Combat Butler Hayate's Fumi Hibino by exactly 400. Ouch. Kamyu Yoshinoya Utawarerumono's Kamyu won in her bracket, with Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei's Kaere Kimura and Natsu no Arashi!'s Kaja Bergmann fighting a bitter battle for second (Kaja won, by two points). Cure Mint, Yes! Pretty Cure 5's Komachi Akimoto, was last, but even she wasn't far behind the other runners-up.Finally, Hidamari Sketch's Yoshinoya won the last bracket, to the bitter pain of Rosario + Vampire's Moka Akashiya, who took a fairly distant second about a hundred points behind). Only one major surprise here, but honestly, I'm pretty shocked.  Today's Battles: 8/23 Maria Well, most of us were right that Combat Butler Hayate's Maria cleaned her way to the win in her bracket, but not by quite as large a margin as I expected-- Saki's Touka Ryuumonbuchi did pretty well in second place. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei's Nami Hitou at least didn't end in last place, while Chaos;Head's Rimi Sakihata did. Mizore Shirayuki Meanwhile, Rosario + Vampire's yuki-onna Mizore...wait for it...SNOWED the competition. I knew I liked her for a reason. Interestingly, Code Geass' Anya Alstreim took a decent second place, although characters from mega-series like that haven't done so well this year. Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka's Tsukasa Kiryuu and Kanokon's Chizuru Minamoto lost out big-time, of course. Mikuru Asahina I'm kind of shocked to see that The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya's Mikuru picked up the win over Kagami by a solid 178 points; as I said in my predictions yesterday, I expected the Endless Eight backlash to put Lucky Star's Kagami at the top. Zero no Tsukaima's buxom maid Siesta was too busy trying to seduce the series' hero to even try, and Feldt was going all emo over her parents at the time. Sigh! Nagisa Furukawa But no one should be surprised that CLANNAD's heroine, Nagisa Furukawa, squashed School Rumble's Eri Sawachika, MariaHolic's Shizu Shidou, and Maria-sama ga Miteru's Touko Matsudaira. A couple of pieces involving Morning Musume this morning: Crunchyroll has announced that tomorrow-- August 20th --at 12pm PST, they'll be hosting a special video announcement from the Morning Musume girl band. What will it be? I have no idea. New album? A US album release? A tour? Hmm. But wait, that's not all! ANN's got word of a frmer MoMu member, Ai Kago, who is working with (of all people) Brian Hardgroove, producer and guitarist for Public Enemy, to make a new anime cover album. It will all be mahou shoujo music and will feature other unique duos, including seiyuu, a couple of members of AKB48, a few of the Nakano Fujoshi Sisters, and considerably more.The album will feature 26 tracks from series like the recent Zettai Karen Children and Zero no Tsukaima (...mahou shoujo?) as well as older series like Urusei Yatsura (...) and Sailor Moon. The cover design's really cute, too, so I bet it'll be a pretty fun album.
