Aww... what an amazing character!SummaryNatsume notices a bird's nest on the tree, in his garden. There were 5 eggs in the nest. 4 have hatched and 1 hasn't. While, Natsume and Nyanko-sensei are looking at the nest, Natsume sees a guy outside his house. He immediately runs out of the house to check it out. However, the guy is no longer there. On the gate, the number 6 is written. According to Nyanko-sensei, the number is written by a youkai.That night, Natsume climbs up the tree and he finds the egg alone in the nest. It seems like its mother is never going to return. Natsume decides to take care of the egg. First thing he does is to let Nyanko-sensei warm the egg so that the egg will be able to hatch.The next day, on his way out to school, Natsume notices that the number on the gate has been changed to 5. Every day, the number reduces by one and Natsume starts to think of it as a countdown. Two days later, on his way back home from school, he sees the same youkai he saw earlier outside the gate. That youkai asks Natsume about the egg on the nest. He tells Natsume that his Master desires to dine upon the egg as its meat is considered to be the most succulent of delicacies and its blood grants everlasting youth. Upon hearing that, Natsume obviously says he knows nothing about the egg.Natsume feels that the number on the gate has something to do with the egg. Finally, the day has come - the number on the gate is 1. Natsume rushes home after school and awaits for the hatching of the egg. That night, the egg indeed hatches. As it hatches, a dazzling glow of light is emitted out from the egg. A cute little boy with horns is hatched! According to Nyanko-sensei, he is the chick of a youkai called Tatsumi. They are a breed similar to birds or dragons, and they never raise their own kids. The chick's form depends on the first living thing it sees, and once it is raised to a certain stage, it takes their original form and leaves. Thank goodness, the chick sees Natsume and not Nyanko-sensei first. ^.^Natsume makes clothes for the small youkai and takes very good care of him. Nyanko-sensei and Natsume name him Tama-chan. One day, Tama tears all the paper he can find around Natsume's room and makes a cute little nest. Tama goes into the nest and asks Natsume to go in too. Natsume wishes he could but too bad, he's too big for the nest. A few nights later, Natsume dreams about the nest. He dreams of himself entering the nest and within its walls, he finds something precious.Each day, Tama grows a little bigger. However, as he grows, his strength seems to wane. One night, Tama refuses to eat anything and Natsume is very worried. Natsume decides to bring some fresh milk for Tama. On his way to the first storey, Natsume sees a rat. The rat is that youkai he had seen before. His intention is to bring Tama back to his Master.Natsume immediately holds on to Tama tightly and runs out of the house. However, eventually, the rat youkai catches up with them. Just when the rat youkai tries to attack Natsume, Tama grows very big and uses his beak to grab the rat youkai. Natsume pleads Tama to let go of the rat youkai but it seems like the shock of growing too fast has made Tama forget himself. Nyanko-sensei transforms into his majestic form and tries to intimidate Tama. Natsume uses that opportunity to stretch out his hand and gently asks Tama to go home. At that moment, Tama remembers Natsume and lets go of the rat youkai.Tama then sends Natsume and Nyanko-sensei home and they bid their farewell.PicturesOnscreen: 6Natsume picks up the egg from the nest.Hee..
