Ruiko gets remedial classes at taught by Komoe-sensei and Yomikawa-sensei.There is no way they're going to keep me, the cutest one of all, off of this show.Summary:It's a day off for most students, but Ruiko has been called to a remedial class with her three friends from class. The remedial class takes place at Touma's school and consists of students who have used the Level Upper (except for the Graviton Bomber, who is presumably still in jail). The morning session is a lecture by Komoe, which as expected bored everyone to sleep. When lunch break arrives, Ruiko realizes that she forgot to bring lunch. Ruiko goes to the school cafeteria but discovers that it's closed. As Ruiko prepares to go out to buy lunch, she runs into Miho (the eyebrow marker girl) who is also at the remedial class. Miho thanks Ruiko for returning her letters, and despite Miho being borderline creepy, the hungry Ruiko accepts the invitation to share Miho's lunch.Ruiko had better watch out, or she might have a stalker on her hands.I expected more out of a seasoned delinquent. Or maybe Yomikawa-sensei is just too good (except against people who have powerful abilities). In the afternoon the students have a physical training session with Yomikawa-sensei. In accordance to her "Spartan" training philosophy, Yomikawa makes the students run laps so they can find the will to exceed their limits. Ruiko does pretty well and ends up being the second last person to quit. A high school girl (the leader of the delinquents that Mikoto beat up in episode 8) confronts Yomikawa about the training methods, and Yomikawa points to the still running overweight guy (the guy Saten tried to save in episode 9) as a good example of exceeding limits. The high school girl doesn't understand and attacks Yomikawa, but Yomikawa effortlessly takes her down. Suddenly it starts raining and all the students are forced back into the building. While changing back to their uniforms, the delinquent high school girl complains about the remedial session being punishment for using the Level Upper. Ruiko confronts the high school girl and states that they deserved the punishment for cheating, and after a brief stare down the delinquent girl decides to back off.Intense! Ruiko shows off her dynamic range!Later back in the classroom, Komoe explains to the students that the remedial session is not punishment for using the Level Upper; instead, the goal is to inspire the students to work harder to develop their abilities. Afterwards the students undergo an abilities exam. Ruiko is a level 0, but the remedial session has made her feel better about herself and inspired her to work harder. At the end of the day, Ruiko leaves the school and sees that Mikoto, Kuroko, and Kazari are waiting for her. What Ruiko learned today:Friends are more important than abilities.Going to the pool is better than going to movies or the Gecko party.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Another filler episode this week, but it was not as blatantly filler as the swimsuit photo-shoot episode. This episode was actually an epilogue to the Level Upper arc, and as such it probably should have aired two weeks ago. It's not the most exciting of episode, but it wasn't bad either. The episode helped Ruiko and many of the other Level Upper users get some closure about the whole incident, and it was also a nice excuse to visit Touma's school and have Komoe-sensei show up ;).I don't really have much else to say about this week's episode, but the next few episodes look quite interesting. It's an anime-original arc, but it's developed by the author of the Index novels so it's not filler. The arc focuses on the Skill-Outs, a group of armed thugs who hunt ability users. The preview to next week looks pretty action-packed which is a good thing in my books. Let's see how the arc will turn out.
