The second season of Index begins with Touma and Index being attacked by a Japanese magician. Divine guidance is nice, but too bad it can't do Touma's homework for him. The bad luck continues. Summary: It's the last day of summer vacation, and due to various summer activities (pretend date with Mikoto etc), Touma has not finished his summer homework and wails about how unlucky he is. Index convinces Touma to go out to a restaurant to relax (and so she can eat), but at the restaurant Touma and Index are attacked by a Japanese spell caster named Oma Yamisaka who uses a magical crossbow. In the process Touma's summer homework is completed shredded and Oma kidnaps Index. Touma tries to locate Index's whereabouts and on the way he bumps into Mikoto but largely ignores her. Just like Index, Sphinx's highest priority is food. This is the treatment you get when you are not the lead character of the show. Oma takes Index to the top of a skyscraper where he has set up an array of spell tags. Oma plans to use his magic to hack into Index's library in order to retrieve a certain book to save a woman who has been cursed to die. Oma performs his spell to look into Index's library, but it comes at a great pain to his own body. Index tells Oma to stop since there would be no point if Oma dies himself. At this point Touma shows up (saw the glow on top of the building) and destroys the magical array with his right hand. Touma then rewords Index's points into his own speech which pisses off Oma, but Oma is too injured to fight and falls to the ground. However, Touma wakes Oma up by letting Sphinx scratch on Oma's face. Touma then offers to use his right hand to break the curse on the woman Oma loves, and Oma is so happy he could only cry. Touma is disappointed that he doesn't get to punch someone this episode. Sphinx finishes the battle off with a Scratch Attack. Somewhere on the shores of Japan, Kaori defeats a group of Knights of England who have climbed out of the ocean. Kaori then leaves the beaten knights to Motoharu. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That was a decent enough start to the new season. It's not super impressive, but it's better than many Index and Railgun episodes that we've seen. This episode was mostly a reintroduction of Touma, Index, Mikoto and the world they live in. There is a bit of everything from Index's love for food to Touma's hero speech in there just to remind us who is what in the series. The action wasn't long or especially memorable, but at least the production quality is still on a high level, and Touma's speech was thankfully short this time around. There was a fair share of comedy in this episode and it was decent. I especially liked the part where Sphinx was sent in to wake Oma up with his scratch attack, and Touma running off on Mikoto was amusing as well. Now that the reintroduction is finished, hopefully the first multi-episode story arc of the season will turn out to be enjoyable. From the feed of A Product of Wasted Time
