Saya Kisaragi is a cheerful, honest and kind girl who trains as a priestess under her father and spends her days quietly with her schoolmates. However, it appears that those outside her family are oblivious to her secret life as a mysterious swordswoman who makes use of her powers to slay monsters. When she's not hanging out having tea at a nearby tea-house, that is... Blood-C is something of a re-imagining of the old Blood and Blood+ shows, with CLAMP handling a lot of the work in conjunction with Production IG. CLAMP have a strong following, but for my money they peaked a long time ago with Cardcaptor Sakura - it's been all downhill from there, and Blood-C continues the trend. The original Blood shows were known for their dark tone and excessive violence - now, Saya's obsessed with cake and boys, and the first half of each episode seems devoted to having her pursue both. There is still demon-fighting, in the second half of each episode, bit it feels tacked on and has no context to it - in the early episode I've watched, you're not told why Saya has to do the fighting, what the demons represent, or anything really on that side of the storyline. It's just a meaningless fight added to meaningless pursuit of cake, ultimately leaving the whole experience, well, meaningless. THE GOOD: CLAMP also equals good production values, and Blood-C doesn't let down on that front, at least. Even if the character designs still look unnatural. THE BAD: They've neutered Blood, and that has to be criminal. The whole thing makes no sense, and simply isn't fun to watch. Apparently episode five or so sees the emphasis shift away from cake, at least a little. I didn't have the patience to last that long, and gave up after episode 3. Dropped.
