Episode 06 – The Bane of My Existence If I had to pick one word to sum up my impression of this series after 6 grueling episodes… I would say that this series is Trivial. Once again, we are faced with another episode of mindless “crime solving” at it’s lowest form – pure speculation. Worse thing is that the show is meant to go over two seasons and already I am able to feel the writer’s struggle at producing entertaining content. Review As it’s become a habit for Chitanda to be the bearer of mysteries, is it any surprise that in this episode Chitanda’s great mystery is *drumroll*……. Why Chitanda had gotten angry in class. The girl couldn’t remember why she had gotten angry in the first place. Honestly, she needs to get her brain checked. However, as the episode progressed (in a slow and painful manner) we find out that the real mystery is why the teacher had gotten his notes mixed up. (Yes, it is as trivial as it sounds.) Episode Mystery Summary: Chitanda’s class had gotten into a rather heated discussion when their teacher had gotten angry over students being unable to solve a math equation. Chitanda then gets riled up due to the fact that the teacher had falsely accused them of not knowing their stuff when the real reason is that the teacher had gotten his notes mixed up and had for some reason thought that he had already covered that chapter in the previous lesson. After much discussion in the literature club room, Oreki comes up with the solution that as “a” and “d” are written in such a similar manner, the lecturer had read his notes on which class had covered what chapters and had gotten the information mixed up. In essence, he had thought that Class A had achieved what Class D had accomplished and vice versa. I would attempt to explain it in a more logical manner but it is honestly too painful to relive this episode in my mind. Back to the Review… So, the first half of the episode was pretty much a whole bunch of time wasting as the characters are trying to get to know one another whilst the main theme for this “peer support group” session revolved around the topic of Anger and Sins. There were so many times during the episode where I had zoned out and had simply wanted to turn the episode off. However, I pushed through it and…. you know the saying of “leaving the best for last”? Well… this was definitely not the case. It just got gradually worse. Oreki’s whole deduction had no evidence to support it and the series has made a habit out of the notion that “as long as the club agrees, that is the truth”.
