Ichigo's training continues while more stuff happens in Karakura Town.
So this is the embodiment of Ichigo's emo...
Ichigo is confused about Hichigo and his funny getup, and Zangetsu explains to Ichigo that he defeated Ulquiorra with the horned mask. Ichigo thinks he understands and prepares to battle Hichigo for the power-up, but Zangetsu adds in a surprise by combining with Hichigo and states that Ichigo must defeat this combined form.
In Karakura Town, Aizen is about to strike Tatsuki down but he interrupted by the arrival of Don Kanoji. After doing his usual entrance speech, Don Kanoji feels Aizen's overwhelming spiritual pressure, but he decides to stay his ground so Tatsuki can escape. Don Kanoji goes for the attack, but he is blocked (and saved from Aizen) by Rangiku.
I was wondering when Rangiku would show up. I was afraid Kubo might have forgotten about her. We will now get some drama between Rangiku and Gin, but I doubt it'll do much to slow Aizen down. I wonder which side Gin will end up taking though. Surprisingly, the person who came to Tatsuki's rescue was actually Don Kanoji... Johnny (one of my commenters) actually guessed it right, so props to him. I'm pretty surprised he was the one who showed up, since he is a comedic character who is also weak. The only purpose I can foresee for the guy is to help Tatsuki and the other characters who can't fight get away from Aizen. They won't be able to escape for good, but maybe it'll buy enough time for reinforcements.
As for Ichigo's training session, I presume Zangetsu combining with Hichigo was supposed to be a surprise development, but it kind of makes sense when you think about Ichigo's powering-up mechanism. First time Ichigo had to fight Zangetsu for his bankai, and then he fought Hichigo for hollowfication, so the logical progression would be for Ichigo to fight both of them for the next power-up. This might be Ichigo's last power-up though since there is nobody left in Ichigo's inner world to fight.
